When a longtime client handed Andres Aviles a flimsy piece of mass-produced wall art and asked if he could make something like it — but better — he didn’t hesitate. For over a decade, Andres has owned and operated New York CMI, a luxury metal fabrication shop in Long Island City, NY, serving some of the most demanding designers, architects, and builders in the country. He already had the tools. The team. The craftsmanship. The eye.
What he didn’t yet have was the brand.
So he teamed up with AJ Otranto, a friend of 15+ years and a creative strategist with deep experience leading marketing for global brands. The idea was simple:
What if we took commercial-grade materials and master-level fabrication skills, and used them to create statement pieces that could last a lifetime?
That’s Kalova. New to the market — but built on decades of expertise.
